textile., a personal favorite....

How cute.....

are these??
     & these......

oh wait! & THESE....

textile. is based out of Charleston, SC & the brains behind the
operation belong to my friend
Margeaux Fraunfelter.

Of course, mister baby already has some textile.
in his wardrobe but I am so impressed with the products,
I thought I'd share them with you!

I recently had the opportunity to ask Margeaux a few
questions about textile. & the children's line
"frolic.... by textile."

Take a minute to read below about how, when & where it all came to be.

QB: Where do you get the inspiration for your pieces?
MF: One of my best friends and I starting sewing together for fun and the first thing we put together was what is now called the "flirty half apron".  We used a pattern by Lotta Jansdotter and made some changes to "flirty" it up.

From there, the inspiration came from all of our friends having babies.  When I was home helping my sister get the nursery together for her first child, we went through a container of clothes our mother had kept from when my sisters and I were young.  My mother made this dress for us so I decided it would be the first piece I would replicate for the frolic line.  Below is a picture of me wearing what is now called the "Lulu Romper".

QB: How long have you been designing & sewing?
MF: It's really only been about a year and a half since my mother brought her old Singer sewing machine to Charleston for me to start using.  She taught me how to use the machine and thread the bobbin and the needle when I wanted to make new clothes for my Cabbage Patch Kids.  We went to the fabric store together, picked out patterns and fabrics and we would sit together at the same Singer I am using today while she taught me everything I know about sewing.
As for designing, I wouldn't say I'm much of a designer, yet.  If I see something I like or if someone wants me to make them something they can't find in the stores, I try to make it.  I think the quality of hand made items is sometimes a little better than store bought plus it's always fun to pick out the fabrics, etc.

QB: Do you have any formal design training?
MF: No, not at all.  I'd love to take a class on sewing because I know there is a lot I could learn.  I'd especially love to learn how to embroider and smock.  One day, one day...
QB: Where do you find you adorable models for frolic...by textile.?
MF: My first model for frolic is the daughter of one of my good friends.  She had just learned how to walk at 9 months and was chasing a puppy around the park while I snapped pictures of her.  They have since moved up the coast so I am waiting for my niece to get a little older to commission her for modeling.  Between her and the many other babies my friends are soon to welcome to the world, I don't think I will have a shortage!  My plan is to learn how to make jon jons soon so I can add some baby boys to the mix.

QB: So you make some fabulous half aprons... the real question: can you cook?!
MF: I think I can cook but I don't do it often to be brutally honest.  I'm not much for throwing a meal together from scratch but if I have a little direction or a recipe, I'm not too scared in the kitchen.  Like sewing, I would love to take classes for cooking.  I know I'll never amount to a Rachel Ray but at least I'll hope to learn a few tricks.
